Police claims five Naxalites killed in encounter

Joint team of COBRA 208 Battalion and District Police stated that four to five naxalites have been killed in an encounter and many are reported to be having been injured.


On Saturday at Bejji, the body of killed Naxalites was brought to Sukma for postmortem by airlifting. Body has been handed over to the relatives after postmortem.


Sukma Police Superintendent Davlura Shrawan and COBRA 208 Battalion commandant P S Yadav addressing the media after the incident said that both the naxalites killed have been identified. Sunamgudda resident Podiyam Ganga alias Viga and woman naxal as Podiyama Rame is resident of Godelguda.


Shrawan said that both side heavy firing took place.
Sukma SP said that on August 21, at around 10.00 pm CRPF 219 assistant commandant B K Mishra and Bhejji police station incharge Ajay Chandrakar
led team of Bhejji police station force, CRPF 219 A and B Company, COBRA 208 A, C, and D company had left for Birabhatti, Kolaiguda and Alarmudu. During search operation, the team at Kolaiguda destroyed the Naxal memorial and was returning on Friday. At around 11.00 near Jagavaram forest, Naxalites started firing at the team. Security forces returned the fire and due to adding pressure, Naxals escaped. The team then recovered the body from the incident site. The identification was carried out and it was found that it is of Platoon No 8 section 2 member Podiyam Ganga alias Viga in dress. The deceased woman naxalites is stated to be Naxal Chenta Play division president. One SLR rifle, 22 live ammunition, 2 nos magazine, AK47 empty shells, one click charger, one camera flash, one pouch and lighter was recovered.


SP said that Naxalites should shun violence and return to mainstream. Under the rehabilitation policy, they would be given all facilities. If they continue then their lives would be in danger.
