On Monday, cleanliness labourers working for Bhilai Municipal Corporation staged demonstration at BMC Head Office demanding wages for the month of November and December 2014. It needs to be mentioned here that the solid waste management project contractor - Kivar Environ had not paid the wages to its labourers for the aforesaid period. Now the company has runaway leaving behind its contract. After this incident, the BMC is conducting cleanliness works and for the purpose, the contract labourers of Kivar have been deployed. Earlier too, these labourers were working for BMC under different contractors. Later, a delegation was allowed to meet BMC Commissioner for talks. Spearheading the demonstrators, Jai Prakash Nair of AICCTU said that being the Principal Employer, the BMC should be make the payment of unpaid wages to the labourers. BMC Commissioner asked the labourers to provide the attendance sheet for calculation of the unpaid wages.
He further said that labourers are at present working for BMC Administration directly and they are entitled to get Rs 192.85 daily wages. He further informed that PF and ESI facilities will be given as per the norms. On complaint regarding payment of lower wages, he assured to conduct probe. Gajanand Jangde, Neman Sahu, Ramchandra Gandharva, Ishwar, Dilip, Gaindlal, Gautam, Vishnu Pawar and other labours were present.
