Pramod Dubey of Congress has won the election of Mayor in Raipur Municipal Corporation. He defeated BJP candidate Satchidanand Upasne by a margin of over 16000 votes. The victorious Congress candidate got 210175 votes while BJP candidate Upasne got 193847 votes.
Congress Bhavan wore a festive look with party leaders and workers celebrating victory of party candidates in election for the post of Mayor in Raipur Municipal Corporation and three other Municipal Corporations in the state. On the other hand BJP Office at Ekatma Parisar wore a deserted look. In what can be perceived as a major jolt for it BJP lost Mayoral post in Raipur Municipal Corporation. Pramod Dubey said that could win the election mainly with hard works put in by the party workers and people of Raipur.
BJP captures 37 out of 70 RMC wards
Despite losing the post of Mayor to Congress candidate, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proved its dominance in 37 out of 70 wards of Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) in election of corporators. Congress corporator candidates could win only in 28 wards while remaining five wards went in favour of independent corporator candidates. Given majority of wards under control of BJP the speaker of the house will be elected from BJP. Under such circumstances victorious Mayoral candidate from Congress Pramod Dubey will have an uphill task to run RMC.
