Congress on Monday submitted memorandum to State Election Commissioner seeking to conduct the upcoming civic bodies elections through ballot papers against the initiative to start the polling through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
A memorandum in this regard was submitted by the Congress delegation headed by Raipur Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak. Congress said that they were not informed about the process of sealing of EVMs after initial test and demanded that the entire process should once again be carried out in their presence. They also registered protest over the use of two types of EVMs for the civic bodies election as it has created confusion among the voters, the memorandum stated.
With the Election Commissioner also ready to conduct election through ballot papers if the number of candidates are more, then the administration should conduct election with ballot papers itself, they further stated.
They said that the process of randomisation of EVMs should be carried out in presence of representatives from various political parties.
