Farmers charge govt with cheating them over paddy procurement

Hundreds of farmers from different parts of state on Monday took part at Kisan Sansad at Budhatalab here under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha Chhattisgarh and demanded government for redressal of their grievances over paddy procurement, crop insurance and other issues.


Question Hour, Zero Hour, Call Attention Motion and several other parliamentary proceedings were conducted on the occasion.
Samyukta Kisan Morcha member Sanket Thakur said that government deceived farmers over paddy procurement, free electricity for irrigation purposes, weather based crop insurance, compensation under land acquisition and due prices of sugarcane and other fruit and vegetable crops in accordance with the recommendation of Swaminathan Committee. Thakur said that Kisan Sansad was organized in protest against breach of trust by the government.


Before beginning of proceedings of Kisan Sansad, all those present on the occasion condoled women who died after undergoing sterilization surgeries at government sterilization camp in Bilaspur.


In first round of proceeding under Kisan Sansad Anand Mishra from Mungeli raised question over paddy procurement. He said that government had earlier promised farmers in Chhattisgarh for procuring full quantity of paddy from farmers on support price but on the contrary it set a maximum limit of procuring 10 quintal paddy per acre. By setting limit the government allowed middlemen to play important role in paddy procurement, he added.


During question hour Tejram Vidrohi from Rajim Akhil Bharatiya Krantikari Kisan Sabha sought to know why agricultural produces of the farmer not procured on support prices in Krishi Upaj Mandi. During parliamentary proceedings Dwarika Sahu from Arang charged the state government with deceiving farmers in the state over paddy procurement. Nagesh Banchhor from Bilaspur moved call attention motion over sterilization tragedy in Bilaspur that led to death of 15 women and turned condition of several other women critical after they underwent sterilization surgeries in government sterilization camp in Bilaspur. Dr Sanket Thakur of Chhattisgarh Kisan Samuh moved call attention motion over paddy scam of Rs 10000. Virendra Pandey from Tatpar institution moved no confidence motion against government through Kinas Sansad.
