The Statewide bandh call given by Congress, demanding Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh and Health Minister Amar Agrawal's resignation on the tragic incident of botched sterilisation surgeries in Bilaspur district, which left 11 women dead and many critical, evoked a partial response across the state. Overall, the bandh was peaceful barring some sporadic incidents like burning of tyres and breaking of window panes of a school bus in Raipur where around 97 Congress workers, including party’s Raipur urban unit President Vikas Upadhyay, were detained while protesting, police said. Reports from Bilaspur state that shops, business firms and academic institutions, barring medical stores and hospitals and petrol pumps, remained closed in response to the bandh at Bilaspur. The shops in the Gol Bazaar, Sadar Bazaar, Dayalbandh, Devkinandan Chowk, Vyapar Vihar and other areas also closed. The Congress workers who gathered to get the shops closed had not to take much trouble in getting the shops closed as the public seemed to be supporting the bandh themselves. The Congress workers were arrested by police.
